The
credit crunch may be upon us, and things are tight so why not make earning
1. Whether you wish to save for a holiday, Christmas 2010, to pay off debts or just saving money in general its always best to set aside a dedicated savings account, PayPal account & maybe a piggy bank or money box/jar to keep your saved cash from being frittered away. Call it your "holiday fund", "Christmas fund" or whatever and don't touch it!! Try to add to them as much as possible as often as possible. 2. Money makeover - Make sure you are getting the best deal on energy, insurance and utility suppliers, etc. Shop around for the best price by using comparison sites such as Money Supermarket, U Switch, My Supermarket etc. Don't forget to check to see if you can earn cashback for signing up to new suppliers and put the cashback you earned into your savings account! An excellent resource to make sure your budget is working for you is by checking out the Money Saving Expert's Money Makeover. 3. De-clutter - Sell all your unwanted gifts and other unwanted and unused items online or at a car boot sale or garage sale. Be ruthless! If it's not used and it's not loved - sell it! Check out Earn from your Clutter for good places to sell or recycle your items for cash or Swap Sites to swap items you don't want anymore for those you do! Top Tip! Even faulty electrical items are bought on Ebay or at car boot sales for people to refurbish or use for parts! 4. Try to resist buying new clothes/books/CD's/DVD's, etc? Arrange a swap party! Get your family and friends together for an evening and arrange to swap unwanted items for those you do! Don't forget you can always use your local library instead of buying books. They often loan CD's and DVD's too at a far cheaper rate than e.g. Blockbusters. 5. If you do have to buy something - always shop around for the best price! In addition, check out a site like voucher codes to see if you can further save any money using a money off code and don't forget to earn cashback on your shopping if you can, by clicking through from your favourite cashback site and put all the money you've saved into your savings account! 6. Sign up to get paid to take surveys and test products to earn extra cash and gift vouchers to go into your savings fund. OK so you can't pay gift vouchers into the bank but you can use them for purchases where you would normally have used cash, thereby saving money! You will also save money when testing products as you will not have to buy any of your usual products! 7. Use what you've got! If like me, you have a range of shampoo bottles in the bathroom, use them all up before replacing them, even if your favourite one has run out! The same goes for all those toiletries and cosmetics you've got hanging around - use them first! Sell, swap, recycle or give away any you won't use. Top Tip! Even empty and part-used perfumes sell well on Ebay and at Car Boot Sales! 8. So many well known companies such as Rimmel, Nivea, Loreal, Proctor & Gamble, etc send out free samples and even free full size products for you to test. Have a look at their websites to see what they're giving away or check Free Samples & Giveaways regularly for news of current giveaways! Why buy when these companies are giving their products away for free? 9. Grocery Shopping - To make sure you don't overspend at the supermarket: a) Sounds simple but write a list of what you "need" and stick to it; b) Take just enough cash to cover the cost of your shopping; c) Shop for the week, rather than several short trips, d) Leave your debit/credit cards at home so you're not tempted, e) Use money-off coupons printed from the net, off the back of packets or that you find in newspapers, magazines, leaflets, etc to save money, f) Ensure you use your supermarket loyalty card, its free money after all, g) Shop around for the best offers if you can, h) Don't go shopping when you're hungry, and (i) my favourite tip is don't pick up a basket for small shopping trips, you'll only buy what you can carry in your arms! Online shoppers - check out My Supermarket to find the best bargains! 10. Loose change - At the end of each day, empty your loose change into your piggy bank or money box/jar and every month, count it up and bank it! 11. One tip I remember from an old chat show is pay yourself £1.00 a day! Put it in your money box and bank it at the end of the month. By the end of the year you will have saved £365.00! Or why not give up that take away coffee you buy on the way to work each morning and bank that saved cash! 12. Save money on birthdays and anniversaries by making personalised gifts. There are lots of craft websites to give you ideas and instructions. Or set aside some of those unwanted Christmas presents and give those instead! 13. Take a packed lunch instead of buying lunch and you'll save yourself a nice sum to go in the pot every month! 14. Take up a challenge! One New Year's challenge is to make £5.00 per day on top of any wages, etc. You can earn this money in a number of ways such as: you may find money in the street, pockets or down the back of the sofa, you may have saved some money by using a money off coupon or you could have earned the money by selling unwanted items or completing the no spend required offers and daily clicks on the Cashback Sites. The only rule is you're not allowed to spend any of your own money, but you can reinvest your earnings! Good Luck :D
